French-English singer NUUXS today releases her eagerly anticipated Red Tape Vol. 2 mixtape via Goldun Egg/Absolute. The 5 track collection follows 2018’s Red Tape Vol.1, completing her Red Tape mixtape, whichNUUXS will be performing in full at London’s Laylow on September 3rd with a live band. Accompanying the release is the reflective new video for ‘Alive’; a joyful and kinetic celebration of the different sides of NUUXS’ personality. “It's about feeling Alive without any inhibitions when you become one with your alter ego,” she explains.
Combining slick electronic production with lush pop sensibilities and complentative lyrics, Red Tape Vol. 2 examines the dark and light of relationships in a way that is both deeply personal and yet universally relatable. Polished slow jam ‘Safe’ rallies against the pitfalls of being stuck in a safe relationship, whilst ‘Options’ is an optimistic paean of comfort and self-worth. ‘Psychic’ and the wonderfully energetic ‘Alive’ delve into the giddy joys of relationships both personal and romantic, in contrast to ‘Good Good Bad Bad’, which defiantly exorcises the demons of her past in a way that’s recognisable to anyone who’s been stuck in a controlling relationship.
NUUXS’ personal and musical journeys are closely intertwined. Having grown up in a cult where she was shut off from such worldly things as music and wider culture, she eventually found the strength to escape and began her musical awakening at school, setting up an indie band with two friends and writing hooks for local grime artists. She eventually caught the eye of producer Jake Gosling (Ed Sheeran, The Libertines, James Bay), who signed her to his Goldun Egg imprint in 2016.
2018’s Red Tape Vol. 1 earned widespread praise from the likes of Clash, Wonderland, tmrw and The Line of Best Fit, radio play from BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and Soho Radio, as well as Spotify adding her to their UK Viral Chart and single ‘No Good For Me’ racking up over 600k views on Youtube. Red Tape Vol. 2, which has already gained support from Radio 1’s Annie Mac and BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson, looks set to continue NUUXS’ upward trajectory as one of the UK pop’s most exciting and intriguing prospects.
