HOW DID YOUR NAME ORIGINATE?

With my manager Adrian I went through so many names and had so many different ideas. We wanted something - a one word new name that was different from anything that had ever been attached to me before.

Everything I would think of just didn’t seem right and Adrian and I always say we like to do things dead right or don’t do them at all.

So I was watching TV one night after the studio and there was a show on and one of the characters had the name Laike. The name spoke to me because it’s got something that is fluid and has movement and it’s ethereal, but to make it unique we spelt it with a Y, and that was it :)))

WHERE WAS YOUR FIRST GIG AND HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE THERE?

I played so many gigs growing up as a kid but officially I consider my first real gig at a club that isn’t around anymore in LA called the Cat Club off Sunset. I loved that place. I always had since I moved to LA and it was really exciting to play and we had about 35 people there so I think we had a good turnout for a first club show off the strip.

WHEN WAS YOUR LAST DAY OFF AND WHAT DID YOU DO WITH IT?

Actually had a day off this past Saturday bc I just finished filming an overnight video 4 my upcoming single ‘Strangers in the Dark’. I relaxed around my house with my pup Zoltan, binged some shows, and got some tacos 4 dinner with a friend. It was perf :)))

WHAT IS SOMETHING - APART FROM YOUR PHONE OR WALLET - THAT HAS TO BE IN YOUR VICINITY AT ALL TIMES?

My dog Zoltan. He’s the cutest and coolest little thing around. Oh and tea. I’m an avid tea drinker like most singers.

WHICH SONG BY ANOTHER ARTIST DO YOU WISH YOU'D WRITTEN?

This is a weird question for me because I don’t think I’ve ever sat down and heard a song and said I wish I’d wrote it because I just write mine and people write there's and we just do our things and support each other. But if I have to answer, my favorite song ever is ‘Under Pressure’, so I guess I’d go with that.

WHAT'S BEEN THE MOST SURREAL FAN MOMENT

I saw the Mars Volta at the Santa Barbara bowl years ago and ended up meeting Omar and the band afterwards with some common friends and they were really chill. I really respect them as musicians and writers and I’ve always been so into their stuff so that was really cool.
