RIVAL BONES - Ask 6

HOW DID YOUR NAME ORIGINATE?

Name choosing in a band is one of the worst things! We tried for ages and then we decided that it needed a few things: to be symmetrical; to have the Facebook/Twitter/Website domain free; and to represent what we ‘sound’ like. When we came across Rival we tried it with some other things and Bones just seemed to stick!

WHERE WAS YOUR FIRST GIG AND HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE THERE?

The first gig we ever played was at a venue called ‘Bumper’ in Liverpool. It’s no longer there but we had around 30/40 turn up for that which was good! We rehearsed to have material ready for that gig, so we’d been pretty heavy on the rehearsal side and were itching to get out!

WHEN WAS YOUR LAST DAY OFF AND WHAT DID YOU DO WITH IT?

Last Friday. I was moving some stuff over from my old flat and James helped me out. Technically it wasn’t a day off though as we had a gig crammed in the middle haha. Usually our days off are filled with ‘band admin’ or ‘Bandmin’. Replying to emails, ordering merch etc.

WHAT IS SOMETHING - APART FROM YOUR PHONE OR WALLET - THAT HAS TO BE IN YOUR VICINITY AT ALL TIMES?

For me it’s got to be my earphones. I’m constantly updating and listening to a mega playlist that I’ve created on Spotify. Whenever I’m sat down I usually have them on me listening to something.

WHICH SONG BY ANOTHER ARTIST DO YOU WISH YOU'D WRITTEN?

Born of a Broken Man by Rage Against the Machine. I think the majority of the songs we’d wish we’d written are Rage songs. Tom Morello is a genius and Brad Wilk is a groove machine.

WHAT'S BEEN THE MOST SURREAL FAN MOMENT?

We’ve not had that many, but James probably had the most recent. We were playing a show in Lancaster and a girl came up to him and asked him for a picture as soon as we walked in. He was convinced someone was playing a joke on him. She got super nervous and was fangirling him BIG time.
